Coffee is most effective when consumed between 9:30 am and 11:30 am.
Sam (fondly known as “Sam 2” and “the Other Sam”) is one of our newest crew members at The Artists Hand, and she hit the ground running. She’s not only making delicious lattes, but she’s
been a part of promoting events, too. Not to mention that she has been teaching our children’s workshops. Go, Sam, go!
Want to know a little more about her? Keep reading!
Sam grew up in Yatesboro, PA. She nearly pursued a major in animation and worked closely with former Disney animator, Professor Mike Genz. However, Sam decided to go in a different direction with her art and now has a BFA from Edinboro University with a concentration in studio arts and drawing. She minored in Art History and Printmaking.
Sam’s mom is an artist, and she often looks to her for inspiration in her art. Sam likes to take inspiration from nature, history, and mythology as well. She especially loves Art Nouveau and contemporary fantasy artists.
Needless to say, Sam is in the right place! She’s already making her mark in Indiana as a member of the Indiana Art Association and the Young Professionals Organization.
If you need to bribe Sam, bring ice cream!

Here’s a short interview with Sam:
What do you enjoy most about working at The Artists Hand?
I truly love interacting with people and getting to know those in our community. I’ve met some very interesting, kind-hearted, wonderful people by working at The Artists Hand that have made me fall in love with Indiana and where I work. I have also met some of the local artists and other talented people and have shared wonderful conversations with them. As an artists myself, this is a wonderful way for me to talk to those artists, gain insight into their work, look to them for advice, and gain inspiration for my own work.
I love and appreciate all art mediums, each has its own unique beauty. My favorite that I have fallen in love with though is pen and ink. I think black and white work looks classic, dramatic, and really lets the artist’s techniques shine through without the distraction of color. Ink itself is very versatile and can be used with pen nibs to create detailed, intricate work, while ink can also be used with brushes to create graceful, gentle marks with gesture and energy.
How do you like to spend your days off?
Honestly on my days off, I often find myself back at The Artists Hand. The environment and atmosphere are everything I love, the smell of coffee, a comfy chair or couch surrounded by beautiful artwork, it’s my happy place.
When I’m not at the shop, I love to stay active and usually I am at the gym. I also love to go hiking. My other love, aside from art, is fitness, and I love all sports and want to follow in my dad’s footsteps with his dedication to weight lifting. If I’m not at the gym, my ideal day is in my studio working on a project or painting at my easel, listening to music.
We can’t wait to see all of the great things that Sam will accomplish as a member of the Indiana arts community, and we’re psyched that she’s a part of The Artists Hand family. Welcome aboard, Sam!
